Areas of Expertise
IGP Training
At Tri-State WDC, we specialize in IGP (International Gebrauchshund Prüfung) training for all dog breeds. Our expert trainer is dedicated to helping you and your dog achieve the highest level of training and Titling. Whether you have a traditional breed or an off breed, our training programs are designed to meet your needs and help you and your dog succeed in the world of IGP.
Protection Training
At Tri-State WDC, our training approach focuses on clarity and intensity in different drive states. We believe that when a dog is clear about what it is supposed to do, only then can they be the best, strongest, and most confident version of themselves, especially in a phase such as protection. We focus on a “new school” approach with more modern techniques and equipment, while being open to whatever each individual animal needs for their program.
Tracking Training
Tracking is a crucial phase of the sport. In IGP the tracks are a “footprint” style track of various levels of difficulty that the Dogs need to be able to follow in any condition. It is a specific type of tracking and involves “Article Indication” throughout the tracks themselves. The Articles can be wood, carpet, leather or plastic. They are scored on how they perform on the track and that score is added together with Obedience and Protection scores to get a three phase “Total” that equals your score to the trial. The maximum amount of points available to a competitor is 300. 100 for Tracking, 100 for Obedience, and 100 for Protection.
Obedience Training
Obedience training is essential for every dog, and at Tri-State WDC, we take pride in offering top-notch obedience training programs. Our sessions are designed to help dogs overcome behavioral issues and develop a strong bond with their owners. We believe in the power of positive reinforcement and effective communication to build a strong foundation for obedience and overall well-being.
Behavioral Training
At Tri-State WDC, we are passionate about behavioral training. Our experienced team focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy for dogs, helping them develop the skills and behavior needed to thrive in various situations. We believe in creating a positive and nurturing environment for all dogs, regardless of breed, and our training methods are tailored to meet the unique needs of each dog.
About Our Trainer
My Name is Derrike Lacross. Dogs have been part of my life since before I can remember. Whether it was my family Labrador’s, or the Dogs I bonded with in Bolivia visiting there in summer time during my childhood, or my first Boxer who showed me that there’s levels to this dog ownership thing. I appreciate all of them being in my life and teaching me the lessons they have. I first put on a helper sleeve in 2015 and it quickly took over the other physical activities in my life, multiple days a week competing in Hockey leagues were replaced with trips to the field with my dogs. I invested all of my time and efforts into becoming the best helper and dog trainer I could, and I’m still nowhere near done learning. I am however at a point in my career where I have been blessed to learn from some of the best in the world. As a club we will be hosting Workshops and Seminars and our goal is to continuously bring people in for continued education. I have been selected to do many National events for multiple Organizations. I expect to continue this trend in the near future and also hope to get on the other side of the field to finally start titling my own dogs. I am appreciative of the club we have and all of their support, I am excited for the future!
